I hope you all enjoyed the fellowship and fun of Department Convention. I've appreciated the invitations I've had from the Legion Family to visit a couple of events so far because they've been a chance to get to know you.
Wright County Fair - I served as Master of Ceremonies at the Wright County Fair! Thank you to District Vice Commander Connie Herzog for inviting me. The keynote speaker was a friend of mine, Zach Johnson, of Roger
I was deeply moved during the presentation, as the veteran I was handing a flag to had tears in his eyes. We fell back into old ways, standing at attention and then saluting one another the same way you would in a promotion ceremony before falling out of formation. To me it was a reminder that we must do everything we can to honor, remember, and respect the military service of our brothers and sisters in arms. It really matters.
• Hopkins Raspberry Parade - SAL Commander Tom Olson, Auxiliary District Leadership Brandi Christensen (on behalf of Auxiliary President Bethany Dickert), and I all rode in a WWII style military vehicle. So much gratitude to Hopkins post leadership. You have an amazing annual tradition in the parade!
• American Legion Baseball Division I Tournament – I was honored to throw out the first pitch on the Sunday of the tournament. I won't say I did a good job – haha. It was great to recite the code of conduct with the players. Sportsmanship is just as important as talent and winning!
Upcoming events I'm headed to soon, hopefully with you!
• American Legion National Convention (August 24-29) in New Orleans. As is our tradition, our district will meet for dinner Monday night.
• Legionville Camporee – September 5- 8. My husband is excited to cook the meat for the 10th District dinner Friday night, and I'll see you at the rally Saturday at 1 p.m. in the camping area.
• Mora veterans' memorial dedication – September 8. I'll give remarks at Mora's dedication event
• St. Francis post meeting – I am visiting September 12 with Department Membership Director Carla Tappainer
I've been distributing my commander's pin with the slogan "Do Your Part.” If you do not have one, let's connect at an upcoming event! I have sent letters via regular mail to each post in the district to share information about my project, Every Third Saturday, and to request funds. Help me reach my goal of $20,000, which will be put to good use helping homeless and justice involved veterans. Thank you for doing your part in the 10th District.

In the last few weeks our post, and probably a lot of posts in district 10, have been doing Color Guard leading parades in their towns. It was great to see the amount of the people watching the parade stood up when the AMERICAN FLAG and the MIA/POW FLAG passed by. I thank GOD that people still think USA is a great country.
Autumn is almost upon us, and we thank the LORD for the crops our farmers are going to harvest to help feed people around the world and all the farmer markets that we are able to buy fresh fruit and vegetables.
LORD are kids are going back to school we ask that YOU keep them in school and on their trips to and from school.
LORD we pray for all our men and women that are deployed keep them safe so they can home when their tour is done.
LORD we ask that YOU watch over police, firefighters and our first responders when they are called to help people stay by their side and keep them safe.
We ask this in JESUS name Amen

SAL Commander
Greeting Sal members and Legion Family
It is a great Honor to be your 10th District SAL Commander for the next year. I am very familiar with the Legion. I was the Post Commander at Osseo/ Maple Grove for 2 years, 1st and 2nd Vice, Historian, CMC Chairman, Color Guard Commander for 12 years and SAL Commander for the past 2 years. I transferred my Legion membership to Bruno Post 563, I was the adjutant there for 2 years. I have 14 years in the SAL and 22 years in the Legion.
I will do my best to get out to as many Squadrons as I can this year. My project will be Soldier 6, they provide service and therapy Dogs for Veterans and First responders. Here is their website www.soldier6.com. They go all over the State to train for Veterans and First Responders.
Once we get scheduled for the upcoming year, I will put all that out for everyone. I am looking forward to working with the Legion, Aux, and Riders this upcoming year.
I would like to thank our outgoing Commander, Jason Voss, for his knowledge and his help getting me going for this year. My email is tom.olson@magnusveteransfoundation.org if you need to get a hold of me this is my work email. Hope to see everyone soon. If there is an event that you would like me to attend email me and I will do my best to make it.
Take care, God bless our Troops and Families

Legion Riders
Greetings Mighty 10th!!!
I would like to say thanks for selecting me as the 10th District ALR Director. I am looking forward to visiting as many Chapters as possible.
The First Annual Multi-Day Ride to collect donations for the MN Veteran Assistance Fund (Fund 85) was completed at the end of July. The Veteran Assistance Fund (Fund 85) is for when struggling veterans need financial help quickly. Veterans in dire straits can receive assistance, with a max lifetime amount of $5,000.
Overall, the weather was cooperative for the ride in the Southern part of Minnesota. We were able to visit two of the newest Veterans Homes in Montevideo and Preston. Both Facilities were impressive.
Ride safe and keep the shiny side up,
Dan Freund
