Continuing the Mission of the American Legion requires that we gain new members each year, not only Legionnaires, but SAL and Auxiliary too. Of course word of mouth is one of the best ways to gain new members, but check out some of the tips below and be sure to follow Department and National websites and social media.

Carry Membership forms with you and encourage your members to do the same. You can also download the new Legion+ App on your phone and sign up members on the spot or show them how to do so. Talk with existing Members Multi-Year Memberships too.

Ensure that your Post has a committee for each entity that is dedicated to Membership. Hold regular meetings to stay on track and communicate with leadership to ensure all parties are aware of the goals set each year and how your Post is performing in meeting and exceeding those goals.

The American Legion National Headquarters has made strides in creating new and enticing Membership videos. Check out their library of items and be sure to share them on social media.

Getting involved is one of the best ways to stay motivated, inspired, and mission focused. Attend District & Department Conferences as they arise. You will meet new people and get new ideas flowing.

Use the power of Facebook, TikTok and others to be seen and heard. Use fun pictures and videos from your events to promote upcoming activities or and to invite non-members to attend meetings and get involved. Create events for all of your meetings & activities on Facebook and share them to community bulletin boards.

Check in on other Legion Families. Follow them on social media and take notes on what is working well and implement those ideas at your Post.

Ask your members to write a testimonial on why they love being a member. Turn them into graphics and reels to share on Social Media and your websites. (see example reel)

Hold an Annual Membership Dinner in addition to email, mail, and phone outreach. Have your Membership committee at a table ready to renew memberships that night.
