Annual Events

Hosting events every year

Organizing events is time consuming and you want them to be successful, right? Hosting Annual Events is one of the best ways to ensure growth year over year. Here are some fun examples.

Event Ideas:

Make sure to plan your event the same time each year (example: first Saturday of December) this way you can advertise it on your website without the specific details.

  • Chili, Casserole or Soup Cook-Off

  • Pie Silent Auction

  • Veteran's Day Breakfast (charge for non-Veterans)

  • Host the Army vs. Navy Game - Charge an entry fee and do drawings on each touchdown for prizes (Second Saturday in December yearly at 2:00 pm)

  • Breakfast with Santa Event

  • Christmas Toy Drive or Drop

  • Turkey & Ham Meat Raffle

  • Turkey Bingo

  • Craft, Vendor & Bake Sale

  • Wine Tasting Event

  • Legion Bus Hop - Charge for the bus, but also do fundraising games on the bus like 50/50 cash raffles, the lei game, horse racing, etc.

  • Mother's Day Gift Event (let kids pick a gift & card for Mom for free)

  • Meet the Easter Bunny

  • Poppy Making Event

  • Golf Tournament

  • Rib or BBQ Cook-Off

  • Breakfast, Bingo & Bloody Mary's

  • Easter Basket Silent Auction

  • Bean Bag Tournament

  • Membership Drive (party)

Here's a few more ideas to help involve the community and let people know who you are.

  • Host a party style event for parents and pass out information on Auxiliary Programs and Junior Membership

  • Sell Raffle Tickets for large ticket items or cash

  • Organize Benefits for members of your Legion Family who have fallen ill

  • Invite High School students to bus tables and serve food at events

  • Work with DECA and other programs to involve students in Poppy making and Poppy Distribution

  • Gun Raffles

  • Work with your local Golf Course, see if you can create a partnership to sell Golf Memberships and get a cut of the proceeds for your Unit

  • Follow other Legions on Social Media and find out what they are doing, but do your diligence and ensure you don't choose competing dates with those in your area
