10th District

Updated: Dec 4, 2024

Volume 6, Issue 2

Several of us from the 10th District American Legion Family traveled to New Orleans for the National Convention. The best part was the local cuisine, fresh seafood! The 10th District had dinner at Tommy’s Cuisine, Italian-Creole fusion. Props to Past District Commander Matt Berens for the selection, and gratitude to restaurant staff for accommodating our large group, including the singing of the Doxology before the meal and God Bless America afterward. Music, especially singing, is embedded in the culture in The Mighty 10th.

Another highlight from the trip was a visit to the WWII Museum. My granddad was a WWII Army logistics E-6 in Okinawa. My commander’s theme is “Do Your Part,” a WWII slogan to recruit women. I’m a huge fan of Rosie the Riveter imagery. Photos of real life Rosie the Riveters were seen in abundance at the museum.

I attended Legionville Camporee for the first time. My husband Chip, an Auxiliary member, put a lot of heart into the Friday meal! I had a chance to speak at the dedication of the new veterans memorial in Mora September 8 as well as at the POW/MIA Day observance in Greenfield September 20.

I have mailed out letters to every post in the district about my project to request donations to Every Third Saturday, a nonprofit near the VA Medical Center that helps homeless and justice involved veterans. The organization’s founders will visit our mid-winter to share their story, how they got started, and their current needs.

Thank you for doing your part in the 10th District.

Membership

Good morning! There are some exciting developments with the American Legion and the new Legion+ app. It's great to see that the 10th district is doing well in membership, sitting at 57.35%, which is 3rd place in the department. The goal for fall conference is 55% great job. It's understandable that some members may choose to renew later, but paying in advance can help reduce costs for the organization. I am always available to help a post out with membership from getting setup online to processing to just questions. If there’s anything specific, you’d like to discuss or if you need help with, feel free to ask! Let’s keep up the spirit of service and patriotism as we move forward this fall.

Heavenly Father I woke up on Thursday looked outside my lawn was white i realized autumn was here i thanked the Lord for the wonderful summer we had. Autumn is a beautiful time of the year not hot not to cold. We thank God for this time of the year the fruit trees and vegetables are ripe and ready to pick. We are looking forward to the Fall Convention in St Cloud we ask God to be with us as we do the business of the American Legion. The legion family are wonderful people so i ask not to forget the Buddy System. If you know someone that could use a visit or phone please contact them. We pray for our military who are deployed please Lord watch over them and keep them safe we ask all this in Jesus’s name. Amen

Hello Fellow SAL Members

Hope everyone is enjoying Fall so far. It’s been a busy couple of months. In August I went to Milaca to help with the election of Officers. They elected their officers for the up coming year. Then I went to their Fly-in breakfast at the Milaca Airport, it was very well attended and very good food.

Jason Voss and I are getting Askov set up with their first Squadron, all the paperwork has been submitted. Congrats to them for getting this going.

Jason and I also attended their 9/11 service that the Legions does. It was a very good program. And the dinner after was very good. I was in Wayzata this past Wednesday to meet their Squadron. A great group and they do a lot for the community.

Will be attending the Early Bird dinner at Fridley on the 19th, looking forward to that. Will be at Fall Conference at the end of the month. Will be at Anoka Legion on the 9th of November for their Veterans Day dinner.

North Brach post 85 is hosting the SAL lead Sweetheart rally in February, date and time will be set at fall conference. Mark your calendar.

If you would like me to attend any function email me and I will do my best to attend. Once again, my project is Soldiers6, they do a lot for Veterans and first Responders by providing Service Dogs.

Thank You, enjoy the fall and hope to see you around.
